More about DonMarie...
DonMarie Reveillac is the consummate carnival lover. Her group name, KOZKELLE, is aptly coined, as it truly reflects her personality, love of colour, and tendency towards flamboyance. "I grew up in a "carnival house" where some of my earliest memories are of going to the Bleachers and Daddy constructing huge costumes in the backyard.
One year he played "Royal Goal" and actually built a full sized jail cell which I got as a doll's house after carnival. Of course I was the toast of the neighbourhood. Talk about lavish tea parties!"
As she grew older she was allowed to participate in the production of these masterpieces, but regardless of her bedtime, going to school the following morning, was a "must".
Despite her father's heavy involvement, neither she nor her siblings were allowed to play mas until they had completed high school.
She has not missed a year since.
For many years she was involved in the group Diamonds, where her sister Allison and another friend (now deceased} produced an annual charitable fashion show. DonMarie also designed and produced a small children's band for several years. Her foray into designing and producing in the adult arena has been relatively recent. Asked WHY?, her response is simply "because I always wanted to!" I see the makings of a costume in everything. Even my Christmas decorations have a Carnival flavour. I do a fairly traditional Christmas tree, and a Carnival tree in a different part of the house.
This year DonMarie is again associated with the 3 time winner of Band of the Year, Trini Revellers and her section is Les Aristocrates. "As soon as I heard the name I knew how I wanted the costume to look." I love these historical themes and all the pomp and elegance that they engender. I fought with the colours for a while but red and purple just shouted to be recognized, so I listened. I like how it works. The large bustle, train, and full skirt, the short cowled beaded front, heavily draped beading on the bodice show the opulence of the aristocracy. The tall elegant headpiece, which is feather light, captures the extravagance of the headdresses worn by the women of the era. The male garment is a true reflection of male attire. A waistcoated version is offered for the cool comfort of our masqueraders on de road for carnival."
Les Aristocrates is all-inclusive, offering premium drinks and snacks over both days of the parade.
