More about Joy...
At the tender age of 5, Joy started sketching on any piece of paper that she could find. Her mother, observing her love for art and her ability, enrolled her in Saturday classes at the British Council in Trinidad and through further persuasion, Joy was tutored during the school week and also on Saturdays by one of Trinidad's world renowned artists, Mr. M.P. Aladdin, Director of Culture. Joy excelled in her classes and continued to draw and paint using mediums such as oils, charcoal, water color and pencil. She was also a member of the Trinidad Art Society and exhibited her paintings in the formerly abandoned Woodbrook Market which later became occupied by the Trinidad Art Society.
Along with her intuitive psyche, her individuality and imagination allow her to express her emotions on canvas. Her paintings portray life in Trinidad - the folklore, the echoes of African shango, the cosmopolitan society, rural villages, and carnival masquerade. Today, her artwork has blossomed into 3-dimensional drawings, papier-mache, acrylic paintings and art using fabric.
In 2004, one of Joy's paintings - The Ajouda - was chosen to hang in the Latin America and Caribbean region building of the World Bank in Washington.
