More from Kwaku...
Greetings and blessings one and all!  My name is Kwaku.  In brief, I was brought up in the small fishing village Carenage.  I attended Nelson Street Boys RC and Tranquility Senior Secondary school in Port of Spain. Soon after completing my education at Tranquility, I migrated in 1986 to Washington DC to study Architecture. I am a creative, 3-dimensional thinker, so diving into the world of design is euphoric.  I enjoy creating and designing on many different fronts.  Whether it be Architecture/ Interior Design, Furniture Design, Clothing Design or Music Production, I get it.

Through my father's love for Steel Pan music (and let me tell you, this man loved Steel Pan!), I was introduced to the world of enjoying and learning about what went into creating a musical ensemble.  From Preliminaries to finals, we were always there for Panorama (Pelau and all – lol!).  Standing next to the stage in the North Stands, of course, became a ritual for me because that is where you could feel lots of energy coming from the crowd.  Standing there, listening to the different arrangements, I developed a deeper sense of music. In time, I wanted an outlet for my interest in this medium because I started developing complex beats in my head.

Let's fast forward to 2002 when I took a trip to London.  I had a chance meeting in a cafe whilst waiting for my sandwich (Hmm! Let me see, I think it was a Tuna Melt Crepe).  A conversation started with a couple sitting next to me.  He was a MTV film and music Video Director and she was a screen play Writer.  They were there to meet with a Drum & Bass Producer so they could explore using that type of music in their work.  I mentioned that Drum & Bass is my favorite style of music and I had many aspirations to start creating tracks and he told me that I should make it happen. This is how I first decided I could and should start creating my own pieces.

From that point on, I dedicated myself to learning my craft and immersing myself in this new world to become a Beat Master.  Now, along with my main love for Architecture, making music is next to the most important thing in my creative and professional life.  I started my own label titled 'Deep in the Heart of the Jungle ©' in January of 2007 to coincide with the release of my first CD.  I produced and released that first CD, titled 'Tribalistic Sessions', in January 2007 through CD Baby in California, USA.  I released my second CD 'TS-V2', also through CD Baby, in May 2007 and my third CD 'Jungalistic Sessions' is forthcoming January 2008, also to be released through CD Baby.  All of my CDs can also be found on Apple Itunes.

I did extensive research to find the right tools with which to create my music and the right company to help promote the music.  That is how I found A&R Select, based out of California, USA.  Out of 100 artists who may apply each year, A&R Select offers a 2-year deal only to approximately 5 to 8 artists.  I was offered a 2-year deal in June 2007.  Now my music is being marketed to Music, TV, Movie, Advertisement, and Gaming producers/creators all over the world.  Thank you, Joe-Ray and Susan, for the inspiration to get started and for the connections along the way.

Advice to young artists...
First, know yourself and be comfortable within your skin.  Second, find what you are most passionate about and learn your trade to the best of your ability.  Don't be afraid to be different because being different is your way of pushing the envelope.  Being different is a way of being cutting edge and making your mark.  Lastly, if you find something that you truly love and are passionate about, do not give up.  Failure should not be an option.

Thanks for stopping by my page.
