MY WISH
If I had one wish in this world
If my wish came through before I am old
I would not wish for riches silver or gold.
neither would it be for weather hot or cold.
If I had one wish I pray
If my wish came through today
I would not wish to fly away
neither would I wish for a palace in which to stay.
If I had one wish it would be grand
If I had a wish granted by my demand
I would not wish for maney like sea sand.
nor would I wish to live forever upon this land.
If I had one wish thus it'll be
I'd make a wish for the benifit of all humanity.
I'd wish for the entire world to be free
Free from all racialism , hate, wars and misery.
If today this wish of mine were to come through.
Then tomorrow would bring a world thats bright and new.
There would be no more hate only love
All earth would enjoy peace under the symbol of the dove
Wars would be gone and love would teach humanity to share
And every other generation would meet a world of care.
The above poem is an excerpt from the book POETRY FOR HUMANITY which contains thirty poems all written by me. These special poems were chosen because they speak out against racialsm, poverty, war, crime and other issues affecting our global community. My dream is to have this book published and to use the funds from its sale to help reduce poverty in my community.
I began writing poetry in 2000 and since then I've written poems on any subject that enters my mind or attracts my attention. Although I never entered a poetry competition or won an award, feedback from friends has led me to believe that I am good at this.
I grew up in the empoverished ghetto community of upper Mt Dor Champ Fleurs. I am the fifth child of my parents' six children. I carry the sign of taurus. I attended Mt Dor Government primary, Mt Hope Junior Sec, and then San Jaun Senior Comprehensive School. From 1994 - 1997, I studied to become a computer Technician and later worked for a number of companies in that role.
After many of these companies went into bankruptcy, I found myself working as a security officer to continue making an honest living. However, this was very difficult as a youth growing up where all my peers and role models were drug users, pushers, gangsters, and even murderers. I lived among them and even though I saw many get rich through crime, I made a conscious decision not to get rich through ill gotten wealth.
Today, I try
to pursuade younger guys not to stray into a life of crime but sadly they don't see me as a real role model because there's little that I can offer them compared to what they can get from robbing or kidnapping or selling drugs. Kids as young as seven years are desperate for what they feel society owes them. It is a sad state that our country is in and from where I am it will only get worse because nothing is done in communities like mine until the situation gets as bad as it is in places like Lavantille and Morvant.
I was given my first cigarette at age 5 and did not stop smoking until two days ago. Our country needs help and it is the concern of all citizens and not just the government. I am taking a stand to help fight against poverty using poetry. If you are a youth and have talent in poetry or art my advice to you is that when you become successful, do not forget to help the less fortunate - even if it is just one person, it is still a contribution to the betterment of humanity.

GHETTO YOUTH CRY
Sweet, sweet T&T
How have you forgotten me?
Why have you left me in poverty?
Sweet sweet T&T
You' ve prospered abundantly
But you' ve forgotten philanthropy
You've turned your back on me
Sweet sweet T&T
At present and in your future I see
A place where no one would want to be
Because crime would destroy your economy
All because you forgotten me
Sweet sweet T&T
Am I not the young in the family?
What must I do for you to remember me?
Mother, mother T&T
Feed me for I am hungry.
RACIALISM AMISS
What if there was only one color, one creed, one race?
And every man had the same face
What diffirance would it make?
Had there been one race
What path would the world take?
Would all suffering and hate end?
Would there be no wars?
Would all nation and peoples be friend?
Would the entire world be at peace?
Would there be no fighting in the Middle East?
All sickness and death would it to exist cease?
Having one race would not put an end to mans woes
His troubles under the sun
Increases as every generation comes and goes
Racialism in human relation is indeed amiss and only adds to man's already overbearing troubles list.
RESTORE OR DEPLORE
Forget not the poor!
Why wish for them to be no more?
Why shut in there faces hopes door?
While in over whelming abundance, your treasures store
People sleep on the streets this fact we cannot ignore
Why a fellowman we refrain to restore?
Or has our feelings for human goodwill lost its endeavor
How from a drowning man the rope of life we withdraw.
We are transgressing against humanities first law
God will hold us responsible for sure
This omission we one day shall deplore.
